African Groove Machine

Tom Bancroft curates:

Two shows put together by drummer/producer, Tom Bancroft, offer stylistically different music for head, heart, and feet

West African music with jazz crossover. Tom Bancroft and Thomas Annang’s 8 piece band and dancer, Adie Baako Elias, are committed to getting audiences grooving and moving as though this was downtown Accra, Lagos, and Kinshasa on a Saturday night, with Thomas Annang, the master of the kpanlogo and djembe in the lead. Tom Bancroft’s music is based on the Ghanaian rhythms he studied in Kokrobite, Ghana with Master Drummer Okoe Ardyfio and is written for three horns (Claude Deppa, Martin Kershaw, Phil O'Malley!), three drummers, guitar and bass, a mighty force which embraces Fela Kuti’s concepts, afrobeat grooves, and more traditional African drumming into the jazz world.
