A Night With Ella
Seonaid Aitken celebrates the songs of Ella Fitzgerald with The Groove Merchant Big Band.
Ella Fitzgerald was the greatest vocalist the jazz world has ever heard. Her extraordinary diction, timing, sense of swing and all round joie de vie meant that her versions of hundreds of great songs were the definitive ones. The songbooks of Cole Porter, Harold Arlen, Rogers and Hart, Irving Berlin, and George Gershwin had no finer interpreter. In today’s cluttered world, the beauty of hearing these great songs sung with the same clarity and freshness is an unalloyed pleasure, and so it is with Seonaid Aitken, the leading singer of her day, and the perfect one to celebrate Ella and the songs she made famous.
Seonaid Aitken will be joined by Enrico Tomasso to celebrate Ella’s very special duets with Louis Armstrong
Enrico Tomasso started playing the trumpet at age five after listening to Louis Armstrong play Basin Street Blues on the gramophone. He met Louis at the age of 7, during Louis’ visits to England in 1968 and they remained friends for the rest of Louis’ life. Nowadays Enrico is considered one of the top jazz trumpeters a regular winner of “best trumpet” in the British Jazz Awards. He’s played with The Pasadena Roof Orchestra, Keith Nichols Cotton Club Orchestra, Echoes Of Ellington and many more.
A stunning night of great tunes, great music, and inspiring performances!
